Camp

 We have carefully designed our summer camp program to include structured academic, social and recreational programs. Each student performs morning chores and (4) one-hour morning classes in selected areas of study. The variety of class offerings are:

* Qur'anic Arabic * English & Poetry *Economics

* Earth Science * History & Law  *Arts & Crafts

* Mathematics    *Culinary Arts   * Cosmetology

 * Medical Diagnostic * Engineering

 For the afternoon, campers have a wide variety of recreational activities such as:

 * Hiking   *Nature Walks    *Archery  * Swimming    *Horseback Riding       *Soccer   * Basketball       * Volleyball       *Martial Arts

All academics, chores, and recreational activities in the summer camp program incorporate Qur'anic Arabic, the Seerah (Life) of Prophet Mohammed and the Commentary of Imam W.D. Mohammed.

 Each day begins with Fajr  prayer a  discussion and on the “Quote-of- the-day”,  by  Imam  W.D. Mohammed.

             The  quote  topics include  education,  community,  excellence/ taqwa, Qur’an, leadership, worship & prayer, uni- verse & nature and the intellect.

In addition to the academic and recreational activities, the students experience life in a rustic, country setting that lends itself to exploring -nature. The campers get to participate in a range of activities that foster personal and social develop- ment, encourage physical activity, and offer a chance to have FUN -Lots of FUN learning!

 OUR STAFF

Our staff consists of highly-trained instructors, selected for their expertise in their respective curricular and co-curricular areas and a strong desire to work with youth. The staff-to-camper ratio is approximately 1 to 6. Instructors include college professors, graduate students, public and private school teachers and business professionals.

 CMS STUDY TEAMS Before the camp begins, students are divided by age and gender into teams. A counselor is as- signed to work with a team throughout the 2-week session. Our teams are named after African American Inventors. By introducing the inventors to the students in this manner, they learn about African Americans who made great contributions and significant impact on the world.

 LEARNING BY HAVING FUN!

A great part of the excitement of the 

Clara Mohammed School Summer Camp centers on the lively recreational program.

Each day the campers participate in an intramural program that includes basketball,  soccer,  volleyball  and  other  sports.

 Board games such as scrabble, Monopoly, checkers and backgammon are utilized in Eng- lish, problem-solving and  math  projects. Students also visit local parks, farms and a horse ranch.

CMS SUMMER CAMP FESTIVAL

 The last Saturday of camp is spent with a trip to an amusement park and later a cook-out and awards ceremony..

CAMP COURSES:

Qur’anic Arabic Accelerated Reading: Whether you know your Arabic Alphabet or not, you will walk away from this class reading! Stu- dents will experience an accelerated learning technique to become proficient Readers of the Holy Qur’an.

Earth Science:

  Our science course will cover the following 8 top- ics; “Allah’s Beautiful Creation”, Insects & Bugs, The 3 States of Matter, Water, Plants, Gardening, Healthy   Eating   &   Life-styles and Environmental Awareness. All classes will  be  taught  with emphases  on  how    Allah’s creation is connected.

Math, “The Whole Equals the Sum of its Parts”: In this class campers will learn a variety of mathematical operations with fractions, including algebraic expressions. “The Shortest Distance Between Two Points” In his part of the class you

will solve questions of distance and length using linear equations, graphing and the distance formula. Ok, we know this sounds hard, BUT the way our Math Instructor teaches he makes math FUN…..

Basic Economics: “From the Seed to The Shelf”…In this course campers will learn the basics of economics and the food industry. Campers will develop an understanding of how food goes from the farm to the supermarket to your home. They will also learn about the businesses and careers involved in the agriculture industry.

Culinary  Arts,  “Food  Chemistry”: In this class, campers will experience the science of cooking   …...learn   fractions   by   measuring spices…and understand the chemistry of “food mixing”.     Campers  will also learn about the food pyramid, the nutritional values in food, how to eat healthy, proper 

serving sizes and the “Joy of cooking”. Campers will assist in preparing a meal plan each day, twice a week one item from that plan will be prepared. Cosmetology  “The Science of Hair and skin.

 This class is taught by two professionals

 Architectural Engineering “How All Things Are Built”: In this class campers will experience 

“hands-on” exercises that illustrate the principles of Architectural Design and 

Engineering expressed in Mathematics, Geometry, Physics, Chemistry and Biology along with the history of early civilizations that employed the principles of building, i.e. The Pyramids.

 Medical Diagnostic “First Aide & More”: Campers will get hands-on experience administering first aid procedures, per- forming CPR and 

measuring vital signs including blood pressure, heart rate and pulse rate. Campers will also participate in dialogue  on  personal  health  and well-being,community  health  and  emergency  prepared-ness. They will be introduced to the wide array of careers in the medical field and how those areas of study contribute to community 

development and economic establishment..

Arts & Craft: Campers will learn the concept of “shaping”, drawing and the color plate. The camp- ers will enjoy a variety of art projects which include jewelry making, portrait drawing, working with clay and more.

OUR RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES:

Hiking & Nature Walks: Each day campers will enjoy an afternoon walk & hike through the many paths throughout the 130 plus acrecampus. During each walk, campers will observe nature; trees, plants & animals. Campers may get a chance 

to observe bees pollinating plants, worms digging holes after a rain, etc. Each walk will not only be exercise but a chance to experience nature firsthand.

Swimming & Horseback Riding: Campers will travel  to  one  of  the  many Parks in the area to enjoy a day of learning, outside games andswimming. Girls will enjoy a private lake to swim at. A trip to one of the neighboring Horse Farms will provide campers with hands-onknowledge of horse grooming, feeding and breeding. As part of the experience, campers will learn how to ride a horse.

 Basketball,  Soccer  &  Volleyball:  When you hear these terms: shooting, passing, dribbling, trajectory, aim, vertical jumping, eye-hand coor- dination, offensive and defensive plays you think of basketball. Well all of these fundamental moves are part of all these very active sports.

Our Activity Director, a College Basketball Coach will teach campers the similarities and differ- ences of these sports, whilethey enjoy playing them against each other. Oh what fun…!

Archery & Martial Arts (Aik Jutsu): Precision, skill, fitness, self-cultivation, mental discipline, character development and building self- confidence are all

part of learning these disciplines. In Archery 

campers will learn that “ bows” function by elastic potential energy (stored in the limbs) into kinetic 

energy of the arrow. After learning the functions of Archery, campers will have a chance to learn the precision of shooting an arrow by practicing 

“Target Archery.” In  Martial Arts campers will learn the 

systemization of techniques “Kata”, this is a set 

routine of  techniques performed alone, or with a partner. Campers will be trained by a Sibok (Deputy Teacher) who has over 20 year 

experience in Ju Jitsu MartialArts & Holistic Fitness

In utilizing the these quotes as the daily topic for discussion the campers gained phenome- nal insight into how to live the life G-d has instructed us to live.

 Intellect: “And you should always let your senses go before your thinking, don’t let your thinking go before your senses, let your senses gobefore your  thinking. Your five senses always, let them go before your think- ing,; hear and then think about it, see and think about it, feeland think about it, taste and think about it, smell and think about it. The best help that man was given for  his brain is his five senses. “

 

Earth Science -  Growing Things

Excellence/Taqwa: “Taqwa is like a seed, it’s dead until you put it into the environmental system.”

 

Universe & Nature: “The role of nature edu- cation is the mother, nature is the mother of education. When we say nature we’re talking about the inner workings of a thins, it tells us its nature; nature is another way of saying function, performance, purpose, how does the

thing exist, if we know those three questions, I think we will know the nature of the thing. The role of nature really is to be seen in the human intellect, the activity for  the  human  intellect, in order for it to establish itself it must feed upon mother nature and it develops like the life in the mother (womb).”

 

Nature & Intellect: “The great revelation is this, dear people, nature is the beginning for all intelligent growth, nature speaks, intellect should  listen. Then intellect should be a servant to go out and intelligently look for and bring back what nature ordered. Intellect should be intelligent enough and sensitive

enough to what nature wants to really weigh what nature is saying, you have to weigh what nature

is saying.”

 

Education/Religion:

 

“Yes education to us is Religion and by that I mean that my religious duty is to educate myself and to improve education in the society for other people. So education is Religion with us, we be- lieve that G-d created us physically and created the soul in a physical environment, the next 

creation is the creation of the intellect and that 

intellect must be created by knowledge and the 

second creation dominated the first. So if you have people in society whose minds have been falsely

created then that suppresses the first life, so the first life dies because of the second life being 

corrupt or distorted of malformed. We believe

when we’re fighting for proper education , we’re fighting for the lives of people.

 

Aspirations: “So we have aspirations, few of us have aspirations that are generated from within, most of our aspirations are affected orinfluenced from without, is that right? But it is the our world that inspirations should be generated from within, faith in G-d is the key.

 Our Future

Worship/Prayer: “Nothing honors man more than 

G-d making man His servant. If you are not serving somebody then you are serving yourself and the self can become a cruel master”

Community & Leadership: “The brain is the ruler in your government. It has to be able to digest all the messages and all the complaints. 

G-d didn’t make a mistake when He put the brain in 

your head and your heart below it.The 1st condition is to accept 

G-d, and then our brain can function right ,it will be 

situated nicely to have progress in our personal life and life in society..”
